“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
-Proverbs 3:5–6 (NIV)
Our culture teaches us to be overachievers.
To work harder.
To do more.
To measure our worth by productivity, financial success, and a picture-perfect version of life that looks good from the outside.
And yet, behind all of that striving, so many of us still feel empty.
Still tired. Still longing for something we can’t quite name.
That missing piece has always been God.
We can chase success, control every detail, and meet every goal and still feel restless inside, because no amount of achievement can replace what only God was meant to fill.
I’ve learned this the hard way.
When I try to control everything, I’m anxious and exhausted.
But when I get it right with God... when I dedicate time to Him, seek Him in prayer, and center my life around Him, I feel something shift.
I’m more joyful.
I’m more peaceful.
And I’m far less stressed.
Not because life suddenly becomes easy, but because I’m no longer carrying it alone.
Trusting God isn’t about giving up responsibility or being less of a goal chaser; it’s just about releasing control and understanding that you are not steering the ship. It’s choosing to believe that God sees what we can’t, knows what we don’t, and is working even when the path ahead feels unclear.
So here’s the challenge for ALL of us this year:
Before chasing the next goal…
Before filling your schedule…
Before striving for success…
Place God first.
Let Him lead your decisions.
Let Him shape your priorities.
Let Him define what success truly looks like.
Because when God is first, everything else falls into its proper place.
Trust the timing. Trust the process. Trust God.
Reflect & Respond
-
Where have you been trying to stay in control instead of trusting God?
-
What might change if you put your relationship with Him above every other goal this year?
-
What is one simple way you can intentionally seek God first this week?
A Simple Prayer
Lord, help me trust You more than my own plans. Teach me to release control and rest in Your guidance. Remind me that true joy and peace are found when my life is centered on You. Help me place You first; not just in words, but in how I live. -Amen.
