Don't Grow Weary | Trusting God With What Comes Next

Verse of the Day
"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."
Galatians 6:9
Have you ever found yourself in a season where you've done everything you know to do, prayed every prayer you know to pray, and still find yourself wondering what God is doing?
Maybe you've worked hard, tried to make the right decisions, and given something everything you have, only to find yourself in a place you never expected to be. And somewhere along the way, your prayers start to sound a little different.
God, what now? Where do I go from here? Are You really working in this?
I think sometimes we talk about trusting God as if it's easy. As if surrendering our plans and believing He has something better is a simple decision we make once and never struggle with again. But when you're actually standing in the middle of uncertainty, with no clear picture of what comes next, trust can feel a whole lot harder.
I know because that's where I find myself right now.
I want to share something a little personal with you this week. As many of you know, Firmly Anchored Faith has been such a meaningful part of our lives. We started this business with a desire to share the goodness of Jesus, encourage others through Scripture, and hopefully spark conversations about faith through the things we create. And somewhere along the way, it became so much more than selling shirts.
We've been able to connect with people, hear their stories, pray over their requests, and build a little community of people who love Jesus. Even these Wednesday Words have become something I look forward to sharing with you.
But behind the scenes, this business has also come with challenges. We've poured so much time, energy, resources, and prayer into making it work, and lately we've had to have some difficult conversations about whether continuing is the right decision for our family. The truth is, we're seriously considering closing Firmly Anchored Faith.
That's not an easy thing to say, especially when you believe so deeply in the mission behind something you've worked so hard to build. And honestly? I don't know exactly what comes next. But here's what I've been reminded of through this season: Just because something isn't going the way we hoped doesn't mean God has stopped working.
Galatians 6:9 tells us, "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."
I think it's important to understand what Paul is encouraging us to persevere in here. He's reminding believers not to grow tired of doing good, serving others, and living faithfully, even when the results aren't immediately visible. And I love that reminder because sometimes we get so focused on the outcome we're praying for that we forget faithfulness was never supposed to depend on getting the outcome we wanted.
We want the breakthrough.
We want the answered prayer.
We want to see the fruit of everything we've worked so hard for.
But God's timing doesn't always look like ours, and His plans don't always unfold the way we imagined.
Sometimes the harvest looks different than we expected. Maybe it's a relationship that was strengthened through a difficult season. Maybe it's a lesson in humility, a deeper dependence on God, or an opportunity to encourage someone else through what we've experienced.
The truth is...sometimes we won't fully understand what God was doing until much later. And that is one of the hardest parts of faith. We want to see the whole picture, but God asks us to trust Him with the part we can see today. Romans 8:28 reminds us that God works all things together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. Notice that it doesn't say all things are good.
There are disappointments that hurt. Doors that close. Dreams that don't unfold the way we prayed they would. And following Jesus doesn't mean we're somehow protected from experiencing those things. But it does mean we serve a God who can work even through what we don't understand. And the good He is working toward isn't always the success, comfort, or outcome we had in mind. Sometimes it's the deeper work He's doing in our hearts, drawing us closer to Him and making us more like Jesus.
That's something I've been thinking about a lot lately.
What if God's goodness isn't measured by whether my plans succeed, but by His faithfulness through whatever comes next?
Because if I'm being honest, I like having a plan. I like knowing where we're going and how we're going to get there. I like being able to work harder, fix what's broken, and figure out a solution. And sometimes that's exactly what we should do.
But there also comes a point when we have to recognize the difference between being faithful with what God has given us and trying to control an outcome that was never ours to control in the first place.
I think that's where surrender comes in. Not giving up on God. Not abandoning our faith. Not deciding that because something is hard, it isn't worth doing. But opening our hands and saying, "Lord, I've done what I know to do. I don't know what comes next, but I trust You with it."
And sometimes that means taking another step forward with the thing you've been building. Sometimes it means changing direction. Sometimes it means releasing something you once believed would be part of your story for a very long time.
Letting go of a plan isn't the same as giving up on God's purpose for your life.
I think someone needs that reminder today. Maybe it's me. 😂
Maybe you've been praying over a job that no longer looks like what you expected. Maybe your family is navigating financial struggles, a relationship has changed, or you're waiting for an answer that seems to be taking forever. Maybe you've poured everything you have into something, and you're starting to wonder whether it's time to keep going or move in a different direction.
And maybe underneath all of those questions is one you've been afraid to say out loud: God, are You really there?
I want to remind you of something I'm reminding myself of, too.
God's silence isn't proof of His absence, and an unexpected outcome isn't proof of His unfaithfulness.
We don't know what tomorrow holds. We can't see every opportunity ahead or every way God may use what we're walking through today. But we can keep trusting His character even when we don't understand His timing.
And we can keep doing good.
We can keep loving people. Keep showing up for our families. Keep serving where He has placed us. Keep praying. Keep encouraging others. Keep taking the next faithful step, even when it feels small. That's the kind of perseverance Galatians 6:9 is calling us toward.
Not a promise that every dream will succeed if we just try hard enough, but an encouragement that our faithfulness to God is never wasted.
We may not see the harvest immediately. We may not even recognize what God is growing through this season. But we can trust that He sees what we cannot. So wherever you find yourself today, whether you're waiting on an answer, standing at a crossroads, or grieving the possibility that something may not turn out the way you hoped, I pray you find encouragement in this:
You don't have to have the next five years figured out.
You don't have to know exactly how God is going to provide.
You don't have to understand why this season looks the way it does.
You just have to keep walking with Him.
One foot in front of the other. One prayer at a time. One act of obedience at a time. And when you find yourself gripping your plans a little too tightly, maybe it's time to open your hands again.
Lord, if this is where You want me, help me remain faithful.
And if You're leading me somewhere new, give me the courage to follow.
Because our hope was never supposed to be anchored in a business, a career, a relationship, a dream, or even the plans we've worked so hard to build. Our hope is anchored in Jesus.
And whatever comes next, that doesn't change. So don't grow weary, friend. Keep doing good. Keep trusting God. Keep your hands open to whatever He has for you.
The future may be unknown to us, but it isn't unknown to Him.
And that's enough reason to take the next step.
Reflection
Is there something in your life you've been holding on to so tightly that it's becoming difficult to trust God with the outcome?
Maybe you're waiting for an answer, struggling with disappointment, or wondering whether it's time to keep going or change direction.
Ask yourself: Am I trusting God with the outcome, or am I only trusting Him to give me the outcome I want?
What would it look like to open your hands, surrender your plans, and simply take the next faithful step today?
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for being faithful even when life doesn't look the way I expected. You know the plans I've made, the prayers I've prayed, and the things I've poured my heart into. You also know the uncertainty I'm carrying and the questions I don't have answers to. Forgive me for the times I've held so tightly to my own plans that I've struggled to surrender them to You. Help me trust that You are working even when I cannot see what You're doing. Give me wisdom to know when to persevere and courage to recognize when You're leading me in a different direction. When I grow weary, strengthen my faith. When I'm afraid of what comes next, remind me that You are already there. Help me keep doing good, loving others, and walking faithfully with You, one step at a time. Lord, I open my hands to You. Whatever comes next, I trust You with it. In Jesus' name, amen.
