“How Will This Be?” | Choosing Faith Over Doubt Like Mary
Share
“How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” - Luke 1:34 (NIV)
Good morning FAITH Fam,
This verse is one of the most overlooked yet most powerful in the Bible, not because of what Mary says, but how she says it. In just a few words, we see a heart that already believes God, already trusts His plan, and wants to understand how it will unfold.
When the angel Gabriel appeared to Mary and told her she would give birth to Jesus, her response was striking. She didn’t say, “How can this happen?”
She said, “How will this be?”
That small difference speaks volumes.
Mary wasn’t questioning God out of disbelief. She wasn’t doubting His power or dismissing His plan. She already believed the angel's words were true. Her question was rooted in faith, and she trusted that God would do what He said.
She just wanted to understand how it would unfold.
And isn’t that where many of us find ourselves?
So often, when God puts something big on our hearts...a calling, a change, a step of obedience...our first instinct is to ask, “Can God really do this?”
We let uncertainty creep in and begin to doubt what He’s capable of.
Mary shows us another way.
Her posture was one of trust. She believed God before she had the details. She trusted Him before the plan made sense. And because of that, she was able to say yes to something far bigger than herself.
Faith doesn’t always mean having all the answers. Sometimes it simply means believing God enough to ask, “Okay Lord… how will You do this?”
So today, take a moment to think about what God might be stirring in your heart. Instead of questioning whether He can move, try trusting that He will. The same God who worked through Mary is still working today; faithfully, purposefully, and always on time.
Reflect & Respond
-
Is there an area of your life where you’ve been asking, “Can God?” instead of “How will God?”
-
What would change if you trusted Him before seeing the whole picture?
-
Where might God be inviting you to step forward in faith?
A Simple Prayer
Lord, help me trust You the way Mary did, believing Your Word before I understand Your ways. Teach me to walk in faith, not fear, and to trust that You are working even when I don’t see how. Give me a heart that says yes to You. Amen.
