Wednesday Word 10/22: Be Still
Scripture:
“Be still, and know that I am God.” - Psalm 46:10
Faith Fam,
If your week has felt like a blur, you’re not alone. Between work, family, and all the things that seem to fill every second of the day, life can start to feel loud. But right here, in the middle of the noise, God gives us a simple invitation: Be still.
When this verse was written, the world around the psalmist was anything but calm. Nations were raging. People were afraid. Yet God spoke into the chaos and said, “Be still, and know that I am God.” It wasn’t a suggestion, it was a command to stop striving and instead to remember who He is, and to rest in the truth that He is sovereign even when everything else feels unsteady.
Stillness isn’t weakness. It’s worship.
Even Jesus, the Son of God, modeled this for us. When the crowds pressed in and the demands piled up, He withdrew to quiet places to pray. (Luke 5:16) He didn’t wait for the chaos to stop before He rested. He chose to rest in the middle of it. That’s what “Selah” means throughout the Psalms. It's a pause, a moment to breathe and remember the One who holds it all together.
We serve a God who isn’t rushed. His timing is perfect. And when we choose to slow down long enough to sit with Him, we start to see things more clearly. The storm might still be raging around us, but peace fills the spaces where fear used to live.
So this week, maybe “being still” looks like waking up a few minutes earlier to sit with your Bible before the day begins. Maybe it’s a walk outside, noticing creation and remembering that the same God who commands the wind and the waves is guiding your life too.
Whatever your stillness looks like, remember: you’re not waiting on God to show up; He’s already there, waiting for you to rest in Him.
Reflection
-
Where in your life do you feel the need to slow down and trust God’s timing?
-
What would it look like for you to pause (to “Selah”) and rest in His presence this week?
Take a moment to really think on it. Write it down. Pray about it. And if you feel led, share your thoughts in the comment section below.
Your reflection might be exactly what someone else needs to read today.
A Simple Prayer
Lord, thank You for being steady when the world around me feels uncertain. Teach me to pause like You did. Teach me to find quiet moments during busy days and remember that You are in control. Help me trust Your timing even when I can’t see the whole picture. Fill me with peace, and remind me that resting in You is never wasted time. Amen.
Lastly, do you need Prayer?
If something is heavy on your heart this week, we'd love to pray with you.

No matter how busy or uncertain life gets, remember this: God is never in a hurry, but He is always on time. Selah.

Love this message! I certainly have my times of chaos, as we all do! It is sometimes difficult to do as this verse suggests. But, I am learning more and more to trust in God’s timing! He is always there with us, through the good times and bad. We should all lean IN to him more, regardless of the situation. He has calmed me, just by whispering his name and asking for peace to be restored in my day! Tell yourself “YOU GOT THIS and GOD HAS YOU” They are not wasted words. Breathe in and let God in!!
