When Heaven Feels Quiet | Trusting God While You Wait

Have you ever found yourself asking, "God, where are You?" or "How much longer?" Maybe you've prayed the same prayer for weeks, months, or even years, wondering when things will finally make sense. You know God hears you, but His answer doesn't seem to be coming, or at least not in the way you hoped.

The truth is, every believer walks through seasons like this. We often think that if we're following God faithfully, He'll quickly show us the next step. But sometimes, instead of clarity, we're met with silence. Instead of immediate answers, we're asked to wait.

One of the things I love about Scripture is that it doesn't hide these moments. David, a man after God's own heart, poured out his frustration to the Lord in Psalm 13. He cried out, "How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?" (Psalm 13:1). Those aren't polished words. They're honest. They reveal the heart of someone who desperately wanted to hear from God.

Yet what makes this psalm so powerful isn't how it begins. It's how it ends.

Just a few verses later, David writes, "But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation, for He has been good to me." (Psalm 13:5-6).

What changed?

Not his circumstances. Not the waiting. Not even the silence.

What changed was where David chose to place his trust.

Sometimes we assume that God's silence means He's absent or that He's forgotten us. But throughout Scripture, we see that some of God's greatest work happens in the waiting. Waiting has a way of strengthening our faith, revealing our dependence on Him, and teaching us to trust His character even when we don't understand His plan.

If you're in a season where you're asking, "How long?" know that you're not alone. God isn't intimidated by your questions, and He isn't offended by your honest prayers. He invites you to bring them to Him.

While we often pray for answers, maybe what God wants most is for us to discover that His presence is enough, even before the answers come.

So if heaven feels quiet today, don't mistake silence for absence. The God who has been faithful before is still faithful now. He is working in ways you cannot yet see, and when the time is right, you'll look back and realize He never stopped moving.

• What would it look like to surrender that question to Him today and choose trust, even before you receive an answer?

Prayer

Father, You know every question on my heart and every answer I'm still waiting for. When I grow weary in the waiting, remind me that Your silence is never the same as Your absence. Help me trust Your heart when I can't see Your hand, and give me peace to rest in Your perfect timing. Thank You for always being faithful, even when I don't yet understand what You're doing.
